After 35 years with Southern, and a total of 59 years in banking, Robert (Bob) Stanley will be officially retiring on June 28, 2024.

Before his extensive career in banking, Bob served in the United States Navy. Bob’s military service took place aboard the USS Des Moines CA-134, a heavy cruiser. During his time in the military, he served in various roles, including being part of the captain’s gig while anchored at Port of Call and taking on the responsibilities of a leading seaman in the Fourth Division while the ship was underway. He also completed the military requirements for Petty Officer Second and Third Class. Following his military service, Bob turned to his friends who were already in the banking industry for guidance. Their advice led him to embark on a banking career that has lasted for over half a century. Over the years, he held various positions, including Vice President/Branch Manager of the Hillsdale office, Mortgage Lender, Commercial Lender, and Consumer Lender. His commitment to banking is also evident in his service on the Michigan Bankers Consumer Loan Committee in 1980.

In 2000, Bob transitioned from these roles to join the Collections team, where his extensive banking knowledge greatly contributed to the team’s success. Most recently, he has worked with the Adjustments Department part-time, showcasing his enduring dedication to the industry.

Bob has decided to retire from his banking career to enjoy life with his wife, Carol, and their dog, Tucker. He will be missed by many, especially his colleagues in the Collections team.

Bob would like to extend a special thanks to Connie Caudill, Kurt Miller, and John Castle for their support over the years, as well as to everyone else whom he has been fortunate to work with - he expresses his gratitude to all.
